How to detect and manage Diabetes?

Diabetes is referred to as diabetes mellitus wherein different metabolic problems affect the patients. Glucose, the converted substance from the digestive food helps in fueling our bodies. Pancreas produces the insulin that is needed for our cells for taking in the glucose.

Diabetes can be related to high blood glucose, i.e. blood sugar due to insufficient production of insulin or irresponsible response of the body cells to insulin. It may a combination of both these factors. High build up of glucose in the blood is got rid of with urine. Consequently the cells are unable to get sufficient glucose for their development and other needs despite its loads. Diabetes can result in cardiovascular disease like hypertension, inflammatory heart problems, stroke and coronary heart diseases.

Symptoms – Those affected with diabetes are generally affected with frequent urination. They become thirstier and need to take heavy meals. Many of diabetic patients may suffer from weight loss without any clear reason. Signs of ketones in their urine are also quite common. Irritation and general weakness are also the signs of diabetes. Poor eye vision is also another sign of this disease. Those suffering from diabetes are unable to get healed soon. The healing process takes longer time. Gun infection and vaginal skin are also the symptoms.

Causes – Diabetes may occur because of genetic and environmental factors. Inadequate insulin-production may also cause this disease. It may affect because of poor response of the body cells to insulin. Hereditary causes may also result in diabetes that may occur due to weakened immune system. The disease may affect due to geographical conditions. Obesity may also result in this disease that may happen because of high blood pressure.

Treatment – Those suffering from diabetes may have to undergo blood sugar test, initial glucose challenge test or oral glucose tolerance test etc.

The doctor may recommend Metaformin (Glucophage, Glumetza or other specific treatment). Patients are advised to take good foods enriched with minerals and vitamins. Patients suffering from diabetes are advised to take vegetables, whole grains and fresh fruits. Animal products, refined carbohydrates and sweets should be minimized by them. Good meal plans advised by the doctor should be adhered to by the patients. Long walks, yoga asana and simple exercises are also good for them.

Few diabetic patients may have to undergo pancreas transplant. The doctor may recommend bariatric surgery too in certain cases. Patients must take the requisite vaccinations at suitable intervals as per the doctor’s advice. Keeping blisters, redness or cuts at great distance is good for the diabetic patients. Swelling should also be prevented. Alcohol and smoking are harmful for the diabetic patients that must quite these habits. Diabetic patients should stay away from stress as it may aggravate the problem in a big way.
