Also known as high blood pressure, hypertension is a condition under which the pressure of blood flow through arteries goes beyond normal limits. It is due to deposition of plaque, fats, cholesterol or such as other substances in the arteries. Some malfunctions of the heart may also result in this problem. Even use of certain drugs or medicines may be held responsible for occurrence of this condition.
Hypertension is more common in elderly. If left untreated, it may even lead to heart attack or such other issues. People who smoke excessively or are over-weight are more likely to suffer from this condition.
